Town Hall on McGill’s Restructuring Plan

Town Hall on McGill’s Restructuring Plan
The McGill Administration is planning to restructure support staff in 14 departments. Join us for a larger conversation between stakeholders on the second week of the Winter semester. We hope to listen to staff, faculty and students in order to promote awareness and build solidarity in our efforts to stop the forced relocation of our departmental staff. The meeting will run on January 14 from 17:35-19:25 in Arts W-215. All are welcome. There will be an open discussion period in addition to designated time for speakers from the diverse groups affected by the restructuring. Our open letter was published in the McGill Daily on Nov. 25th. You can still support this letter by adding your signature–see the updates section the SOS-McGill website for more info:

EGSS Travel awards – Fall applications

The EGSS Travel Awards are available to all EGSS members who will be presenting their work at conferences or scholarly meetings outside of Greater Montréal. The deadline for the Fall submissions has passed, which would provide funding for events held between November 1, 2013, and February 28, 2014. However, due to a lack of applicants, funds are still available! If you are interested in applying for this available funding we have extended the application deadline until November 15, 2013. To apply, please visit our website at this link.

EGSS is looking for volunteers!

EGSS is looking for two volunteers to sit on the Diversity and Equity Committee of the Department of Integrated Studies in Education.

The proposed committee is an interim response to the call from EGSS Council for a reconstitution of FEDEC; given the Faculty’s current state of flux, the department has agreed to form an initial committee at the department level. The committee has been tasked with the responsibility of exploring, and proposing concrete strategies for improving, what have been identified as issues of concern and importance to the department in a series of report, including the 2009 FEDEC Report to previous Dean Perrault, the faculty Undergraduate Program Revisioning Report (2010), the Principal’s Task Force on Diversity, Excellence, and Community Engagement (2011), and, most recently, the Report on Diversity and Equity in the Faculty of Education (2013) authored by rosalind hampton, VP of Diversity and Equity of EGSS.

If you are interested in being part of this initiative, please contact us at There is a meeting coming up next week, so volunteers are expected to attend and report back to EGSS.
